One of the most saddest days today as for I made the most heart wrenching decision to release my Matriarch and Queen ... my dearest Shiraz.
I sadly released my Silver Angel into the Violet Sky. Tonight was the first time I have been able to see the ✨stars ✨as I looked into the smokey night sky, one star seems to shine brightly. I had read something about when you lose a loved one and finding a star ... ✨ Oh how it hurt gazing at that star thinking of Shiraz the Matriarch of my Poodle Pack and how I miss her regal presence ... I know it will take time for the pain of her loss to soften.
Shiraz was my first homebred of Violet Standard Poodles.
A week ago we celebrated her 16th Birthday!

Yeahhh!!! I thankfully squeezed in a sheep herding lesson under my favourite Obedience Instructor & Judge Karen Brearley of Longhaul Kennels who very unfortunately for me and very lucky for others, is moving up to Armstrong, B.C.
As I was still recovering from a concussion I had not been doing any of my canine activities and saw that Karen was offering her last sheep herding lesson in the lower mainland before she moved! Well I was not going to miss an opportunity of that, so off Santos, Shimmer, husband in tow and myself went!

Winter and Spring of 2014
So my healing for the concussion continues for the rest of the Winter and Spring of 2014. Of course when one bangs the very same area or falls it does NOT speed up the healing! Needless to say, very light training and no show competitions for anyone! :(

Santos and I went for a beautiful walk around the pond
in this gorgeous sunny day playing by the frozen shore line
watching the rocks I threw out across the frozen pond with great interest as they skipped along making the most crazy different sounds!
Happy Birthday to my Dad who would have been 89 and to Santos
who is 9 years old today (Friday) !!
Two very gentle souls whom I love and adore and hold both very close to
my heart and even closer today!! ♥

My day walking the Poodles!
Well... you never know what is going to happen when you venture outside for a pleasant walk in your neighbourhood!! Out I go with Opal and a puppy for a nice stroll in the beautiful sunshine. We had only gone a few houses down the road when I spot a pair of ducks on my left. They were just meandering out along the brush edge of a driveway. How odd I thought to see this pair of ducks there?
As we walked onwards I notice the ducks coming towards us, I continued to think of how strange it was. One is a Mallard hen and the other a possible mix of Mallard and Muscovy whether it was a drake I'm not sure but supposed as they were paired. I continue to walk on watching these two advance closer and more in a hurry as they are making their way towards us. Wow that is really strange as I'm watching the Muscovy who is in front and now in more of a hurry!! I'm thinking he is coming after us but they are not acting like they have young to protect running at us with their heads straight out downwards hissing and squawking, no they are wanting to come see us as they waddle faster and faster with their heads straight up and chest out like a duck does looking at us as I continue at a little quicker step myself here now.
I'm watching Opal and the puppy thinking what in sam blazes hell is going to happen here!!! Gads I do not want the puppy attacked as he is only 3 1/2 months old giving him a fear for life walking on leash up a road and oh God what is Opal going to do??? I had rearranged the pup to the inside to protect him more so for the "new things" in his life. Are these someones pets who were raised with a white dog or what the heck is going on with these two ducks!?!!! What does that duck want with us??? LOL I arranged the dogs on the other side so they don't get attacked or they don't attack the ducks! Good grief that is all I need happening in my own neighbourhood with me standing there in the middle of the road with two Poodles attached to my leashes and two silly ducks attached to them!! The puppy doesn't seem to even be aware to what is going on. Oh the innocence of puppies. Now these ducks are coming fast at a waddling run quacking as they approach ... picture that with a woman with two dogs bred for hunting!
Opal is anticipating them as I try to position the dogs behind me and reach my hand fumbling into my half closed pocket full of kibble throwing it at the ducks which they ignore and are closing in on us faster and faster as we continue to move away so I throw another handful of again ignored kibble at them which he is now 3 feet in front of us and I make a fast one legged stump out at him keeping the dogs behind me to ward him off to no avail so the woman with two white Poodles takes flight with two dam ducks waddling at a very fast run down the street after them!!!!!
I could not believe it!!! As we ran down the street with a half look of disbelief and half look of humour as I scoured the front yards for people to 1) see if they were either seeing what was going on here and rolling on the grass in a crazed histairia of laughter or 2) hoping to see someone who knew whose dang ducks these were and hopefully ward them away before I found out that yes Opal could truly herd ducks or she could make duck soup out of them. They flew into a yard just behind us and were looking like they were coming in to do a shorter clip to us so we continued to run!! How crazy was that!?!!!???? I was afraid to cross the road for fear of them getting hit by a car so stayed on that same side of the road and made a couple of turns. It appeared that we lost the crazy ducks however it took me awhile to stop looking over my shoulder!!!
Upon returning home with no ducks to be seen or heard I continued to look out the front room window peering down the street to see where they had gone!!! That was one of the wackiest quackiest walks I'd ever been on!!!

Now these ducks are coming fast at a waddling run quacking as they approach ... picture that with a woman with two dogs bred for hunting!
Opal is anticipating them as I try to position the dogs behind me and reach my hand fumbling into my half closed pocket full of kibble throwing it at the ducks which they ignore and are closing in on us faster and faster as we continue to move away so I throw another handful of again ignored kibble at them which he is now 3 feet in front of us and I make a fast one legged stump out at him keeping the dogs behind me to ward him off to no avail so the woman with two white Poodles takes flight with two dam ducks waddling at a very fast run down the street after them!!!!!
I could not believe it!!! As we ran down the street with a half look of disbelief and half look of humour as I scoured the front yards for people to 1) see if they were either seeing what was going on here and rolling on the grass in a crazed histairia of laughter or 2) hoping to see someone who knew whose dang ducks these were and hopefully ward them away before I found out that yes Opal could truly herd ducks or she could make duck soup out of them. They flew into a yard just behind us and were looking like they were coming in to do a shorter clip to us so we continued to run!! How crazy was that!?!!!???? I was afraid to cross the road for fear of them getting hit by a car so stayed on that same side of the road and made a couple of turns. It appeared that we lost the crazy ducks however it took me awhile to stop looking over my shoulder!!!
Upon returning home with no ducks to be seen or heard I continued to look out the front room window peering down the street to see where they had gone!!! That was one of the wackiest quackiest walks I'd ever been on!!!
