Yeahhhhh!!!!! As my long time friend told me just talk to her and tell her she just needs to find the rat and then she can go and socialize all she wants! So I did and she did! LOL Thanks Cindy!

So thrilled my girl did it.....! I'm also most pleased she achiever her RATN Title under Dan Mata as Dan was one of the judges from our very first Trial we went to in December of 2017 in Hillsboro, Oregon at Valley Dog Sports where Sparkle got her first Q and a 2nd place
in the large dog division just as she did again today! ♥

Sparkle found the rat for her 4th Instinct Test first thing this morning in 0:30.84 seconds of the allowed 1 minute.
She did not hunt well for the first Trial Sunday as she was very distracted trying to see what Shimmer and Kareem
appeared to be barking at however picked it up for the second Trial hunting well.
Note to self: Cover crate door so no visual stimulation as for no matter how well they have been there is always a first time
hence distracting the one in the ring!
It's such a shame I call wrong as I was told she had found the rat!

Some very good hiding techniques on the judges behalf today so no Q's today!
No Trumpter Swans in the next fields like they were at the last
Trials in February.
*April 2019 I heard most disturbing news of approximately 50 swans found dead and dying. It appears they took to a new area and ingested lead.*
The count is up to 60 swans according to this article!!! ):

I only entered today as it was supposed to snow which it did all over the West Coast!
So pleased I stayed home and did not do day of entry for the Sunday! Sadly I didn't take photos of the beautiful

During the Barn Hunt Trials I was astonished to see all the Trumpeter Swans in the next field! At first I thought they were Snow Geese. The little video opposite is from when I was standing watching them all fly over thinking I'd better try to capture some on my phone!!! Unfortunately most had already flown over. |

Most sadly this was the last weekend of Trials for the Barn Hunt Academy hence the group shot of everyone!
Just Sparkle and I came down for the Trials this weekend.
Rats no rats for us but we still enjoy everyone's company.
Volunteering is a great thing to do at these Trials as that is the only way we are able to continue these events. Not only is it a good thing to put back into the Clubs and Trials, it's a great way to learn more of this fun sport for both the dogs.
P.S. I've been told the rats scurry into the tubes to go and intervene with the dogs!
Rats no rats for us but we still enjoy everyone's company.

Sunday August 12, 2018 Judge: Sandra Tung Ahhh my little social butterfly Sparkle. She just can't help herself but she was hunting! Not a strong hunter however when you start in your 12th year we have got to give her some credit and a lot for today!!! ♥ She was first and the only qualifier of four dogs ♥ in her class of large dogs at 1:32:55 or 92:55 seconds ;) I'm so pleased she is now on 2 Q's needing one more for her ♥RAT Novice Title!♥ ♥ |

"It was time to venture out again finally!" says Sparkle who has been on Grandma duty ... or not so much!
Give me a break I'm 12 - 1/2 years old, I don't want to play with those little sharks! LOL
All kidding aside however as we have been in the motherly way here we do not venture out for fear of bringing something
harmful home putting mom and pups at risk!
We had not been out any where since our first introduction lesson to Barn Hunt in November and then our first Trial in Hillsboro, Oregon in December 2018 so we went in for the fun of it as always! Unfortunately having had a couple of concussions over four years ago I must limit
computer and phone screen time which I did not do the day before this Trial leaving me with violent headaches and feeling nauseous.
We started at 8:30 am with the Rat Instinct starting with Kareem,Shimmer and then
Sparkle who got her RAT INSTINCT TITLE! Please remember it is a team and the handler must watch their dog to know when they can detect a live rat! There are three tubes in a cradle which one is empty, one has litter from a rat and then of course the rat herself! You are allowed one minute with no touching the dog. We succeeded in 37:23 seconds! Whew!!!
Yippee now Sparkle can add that Title to the end of her name!

As I mentioned to no fault of Sparkles but to her handler being myself, I truly was not in full "Rat Detection Mode" and interfered with Sparkles hunting ability. So sorry my Sparkle. We are learning and taking the challenge and having fun! So we did not get any Q's for our Rat Novice and are wonderfully sitting on one Q needing two more for our Rat Novice Title. Next time!

from the "people" who she thinks are her "Fans" I called her to the tunnel, a climb on top of the bales searching for the rat thinking
I only have a minute how can I ... OH NO this is Instinct and there is the tube cradle ... and of course one minute was up!

We didn't succeed for we either ran out of time or I called the wrong tube as Rat! Oh well it was a great weekend having fun with my poodle pack, learning how to hopefully read their instincts, meeting new people and some great dogs! A road trip much enjoyed!

rat hunter and had her nose driven into that little clump of hay on top of the bale so I called RAT! That indeed it was! I let out a holler that I could not help LOL!!! We earned a Q towards her three required for Rat Novice ... and ... that's not all as she took 2nd in her class of large breed dogs!!! We are allowed 2 minutes and she sniffed it out in 0:35:38 seconds! WOWZA Sparkle!!!

Five Standard Poodles BHA Registered and entered, it was a Road Trip to Hillsboro, Oregon the day before the Trials today.
Sparkle tried out in the Rat Instinct Test first followed by the Novice Class where in Trial 1 she only wanted to visit with everyone in the ring! UGH Sparkle your killing me! When I got her attention to come look to where I was pointing she would promptly lay down in the little pile of hay which may or may not have had the Rat Tube there! LOL I was thinking OMG whats the point this is going nowhere! So needless to say we did not qualify! We got a NQ for Not Quite ;)
