Puppies did not arrive on the estimated due date of Thursday October 4th.
I thought for sure she was going to whelp a day early which would have been on Wednesday my birthday but nooo they arrived two days early! We all say they do not read that textbook!!!

Right at the start, after all the health testing is complete on
both the stud dog of choice for my bitch, looking back into both pedigrees researching the health behind (genotype), looking at phenotype for which and what will compliment each side and very important, the temperament ….
On the fifth day of the bitch’s heat cycle when I have noticed the spotting of blood, I am off to the veterinarian for a blood draw which is then prepared usually at a lab to have the progesterone levels read. This is done approximately every other day (or more with a weekend interfering) depending on the numbers we want to pinpoint the LH surge (luteinizing hormone) then ovulation timing for when the breeding will take place. There is a timing difference with the breeding for frozen, fresh chilled semen or for a natural breeding not to mention which country the semen is coming from!
Lots of jumping on both sides in preparation of both the stud dog,
bitch owners and the reproduction veterinarians!
There is a count of 65 days for the estimated whelping day give or take a day from ovulation.
Temperature is taken at least five to seven days before the estimated due date.

Sunday Sept 30th, 2018
4 pm Shimmers temp dropped to 98.9 F
Monday Oct 1st, 2018
2:30 pm she started showing the early signs of labour with digging. I also caught her peering under the bed which I had all blocked off with bins etc! 😉
This is denning behaviour.
4 pm temp drop to 98.7 F
9:30 pm Shimmer ate dinner.
10:25 pm Labour panting started.
Tuesday Oct 2nd, 2018
All the rest of the early hours of the night was back and forth outside to relieve herself or sometimes as she was so humongous with puppies she was just feeling the pressure thinking she needed to relieve herself. She was up and down on my bed, walking around, digging in her bed, asking out or laying on her big pillow beside my pillow panting.
Hard Labour
5:35 am heavy panting started. Time to send out messages to my wonderful and much appreciated whelping hands that it’s getting close to time!
5:45 am to 5:50am Quivering amongst the heavy panting. Shimmer wanted to be close and spooned with me on my bed. Sometimes she would put her paw on my hand. This little girl is just so remarkable. She gives me her all in so many ways and this is the hardest one I may ask for one of my girls.
5:38 am Message sent out TIME! Watching for contractions.
First contraction (34 minutes after first helper arrived) ♥
6:54 am
7:11 am second contraction.
7:12 am water broke a minute later after second contraction!
7:13 am puppy bubble
7:14 am FIRST PUPPY!!!
Second helper arrived 15 minutes after first puppy arrived. I am most thankful to each and everyone for all their help and support.♥
Fast forward to 2:52 pm the eleventh and last puppy arrived!!!
WOW my little Shimmer did so well!!! Six females and five males!!!
Definitely my next girl is in there!!!
